PSA: Wrapping A CYBERTRUCK

PSA: Wrapping A CYBERTRUCK

First and foremost, congratulations on your new vehicle that snapping heads throughout the Twin Cities.

Your CYBERTRUCK already has a polarizing design, but if you're reading this, odds are you want to kick it to the next level with either a vehicle wrap or protect it with paint protection film.

You've come to the right place, but we do have a couple of warnings to give you, primarily that due to the unique properties of stainless steel, we must emphasize that CYBERTRUCK wraps are not warrantied.

Why can't we warranty CYBERTRUCK wraps?

Our installers are some of the best out there - with a combined experience of over half a century. We've wrapped everything and anything with little to no hesitation. The only cause hesitation with the CYBERTRUCK is it's stainless steal body.

The combination of vinyl wrap and stainless steel could potentially lead to long-term galvanic corrosion, a process that occurs when two dissimilar metals come into contact with each other in the presence of an electrolyte. This can cause one of the metals to corrode at a faster rate than it would if it were exposed to the environment alone.

Now in English because even I barely understand it: The vinyl wrap adhesive, once slapped onto the stainless steal body, has a chemical reaction, causing the vinyl wrap to bound beyond it's spec, making it harder to remove and creating potential damage within the stainless steal body. So once it's bonded, there's little to no way of knowing what's going on beneath the wrap (unless you got clear Paint Protection Film)

Now throw in all the Minneapolis / Saint Paul snow weather we get, the salt treatment on all our roads, and that's potential for disaster.

Additionally, in the event of issues related to the wrap, finding replacement panels for the CYBERTRUCK could be challenging. Tesla already doesn't have the best reputation of being consumer friendly, and already has a known supply issue for even their current sedans and SUVs. In the event you chose to remove the wrap and notice all the damage, the odds of you getting new panels for your vehicle are slim to none, and might result in you having to replace the entire vehicle.

To minimize potential issues, our team recommend the following:

  • Pre-treatment with Maguire's iron removing spray clay: This can help neutralize any iron embedded in the stainless steel and improve the chances of a successful wrap.
  • Thorough cleaning with 70/30 IPA/water: A clean surface is essential for optimal adhesion and long-term durability.

Are you willing to take the risk?

We've seen them all around the Twin Cities - the bright yellow CYBERTRUCK, the Matte Black, and there's even one with company branding for a plumbing company. Depending who you are, the risk might be worth it to have a truly unique vehicle. Although there might not be a warranty attached with the vehicle wrap, our professional team is more than happy to work on your vehicle and provide you a perfect install!

Here are some things to consider (besides the PSA you just read):

  • Choosing between PPF (Pain Protection Film) or Color Change Vinyl Wrap: Quick summary between the two is if you're looking to prevent damages from rock chips and debris, paint protection ins your best bet. If you're looking for unique colors, patterns, or even a custom printed design, go with a vehicle wrap. For a further breakdown, check our our last blog of PPF vs Vinyl Wrap.
  • Material Quality: Cheaping out probably isn't your best bet with your CYBERTRUCK. Although it might be pricier, invest in a good quality film from respected dealers such as 3M, which are known to resist fading, chipping, and are resistant to the elements.

At Sun Control of Minnesota, we're committed to providing the highest quality custom wraps for Cybertrucks. Our team of experts can help you choose the perfect design and ensure a professional installation.

Remember: While Cybertruck wraps may not be warrantied, they can offer a stylish and protective solution for your vehicle. By carefully considering the factors mentioned above and consulting with our experts,
