When it comes to protecting your home and business, you want to do everything you can to keep the people you love and your belongings safe. One of the biggest threats to your home and your business is the risk of breaking and entering, also known as smash-and-grab crimes. Criminals go for what’s easy, and if your windows are not easy to break, they tend to move on before they get caught in search of an easier target.

At Sun Control of Minnesota, we offer a wide range of 3M safety and security films to protect your home and your business. We’ve put together this helpful guide to walk you through the different levels of safety and security film so you can make the best decision for your needs.

3M Safety and Security Films

3M manufactures a polyester-based safety film that is applied aftermarket to glass windows and other glass products. This film can protect from breaking and shattering due to either an accidental impact or something more intentional like breaking and entering. In other words, 3M film can protect your home from everything from a serious hailstorm to a stray baseball. Because it slows down intruders and makes their job harder, it can offer an added layer of security to your home or business.

3M film protects your home in these ways:

●        Lower chance of burglary

●        Reduced UV damage to your furniture and floors

●        Protection from flying glass and debris during dangerous weather

●        Protection against shattering due to accidents

Four Levels of 3M Safety Film Protection

3M comes in four different levels of protection for your home. With each added layer of thickness, your home is further protected. The number on each type of film refers to its thickness. For example, Safety S40 is 4 milli-inches of thickness. Safety S70 is slightly thicker, at 7 milli-inches of thickness. Safety S80 is 9 milli-inches thick. Safety S140 is a three-layer polyester laminate that is 14 milli-inches thick.

Each of these films is scratch-resistant and increase resistance of the glass to pressure as well as impact. We also offer five grades of commercial protective film.
